In his defense, narrative through interactive media is an all-together different monster. They work differently, and any saga that spans over hours and ten volumes is bound to be complicated, or at least hard to summarize.
Nomura some slack. Paul Ramsdell. Many of these videos are 30 minutes or longer, revealing just how complex this epic saga has become The Kingdom Hearts series is renowned for its convoluted plot, but why is the story so complicated? Tetsuya Nomura was a character designer, not a storyteller. Maleficent, while still an antagonist in the game, was upstaged by the much darker Ansem Square Enix.
As BlackOsprey pointed out, the story is a mess, but that isn't a bad thing. It's not that it's confusing to the point of being beyond understanding, but that it is very detailed and needs to be pieced together. The story is my favorite thing about the series due to how much it has to be analyzed.

It was locked up beyond the door to darkness and when Sora opened the door the light returned to where it belong just like in Kairi's Grandmas story about the original KH except now that happened to the artificial KH created by Ansem SoD.
As for how Sora could now that it was light? Ha, that's easy, Sora follow his heart, get it? Know thyself and thy shall know God I wouldn't be surprised if the world, that is both the realms are just projections and everything really exist inside of KH and that is how it's all connected etc.
In KHI when Sora turn in to a heartless he loose his body and doesn't get it back until the start of KHII when he join with Roxas, he still don't become complete until he fight Roxas even later but anyway, when he don't have a real body his heart is basically just projecting the body he's using or at least that's the theory so it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume that KH can do the same, or perhaps they'll talk about that in KHX?
Sephiroth Guardian of Light. And honestly, I just have to disagree with the notion that the story is terrible. Spoiler Show. Sephiroth said:. The story itself isn't terrible, but the way it is presented to the audience sometimes is. A complex story is not a problem in itself as is the need to piece it together. However, when even the individual pieces you need in order to piece it all together are scattered all over the place and you're not even told where you can find all the pieces since not all of them are present in the games themselves or not even in non-japanese material at all, it can get somewhat annoying for those who aren't patient enough to search for all the needed pieces available in order to start analyzing.
The Kingdom Hearts Memorial Ultimania book japan-only, but translated via the net has such nifty things as a Character Correlation diagram:. Tinny said:. BlackOsprey said:. When did it ever confirm that Yen Sid was a brother pupil to Xehanort and Eraqus?
I don't recall reading any sources that explicitly site that Yen Sid trained alongside those two. Did I miss something from an interview again or what? Precursor Mar New member. Literal representation of Nomura's mind:. It is after all easier and faster to just complain and rant. Nazo Hope Remains.
Although there is a veneer of Disney charm across the entire franchise, it has its own, individual tone, and the plot at large is much more of a complex, winding path than even some of the more traditional Square Enix titles. On paper, Kingdom Hearts should never work. The joie de vivre of its Disney and now Pixar worlds is stitched onto melodrama of epic proportions, throwing caution to the wind by both placing previously safe characters into a plot far beyond their comfort zone and reforming others into valiant monster killers.
In Kingdom Hearts , Mickey Mouse is a dimension-hopping royal wielding powerful weapons, Donald Duck is a master magician, and Goofy is a loyal knight whose apparent death leads to calls for vengeance from Mickey. Those unfamiliar with the franchise as a whole may find the "death" of Goofy as an absurd twist, or possibly even hilarious in its otherness.
It showcases the way in which Kingdom Hearts plays fast and loose with Disney in a fantastic crossover that is, above all else, extremely entertaining.
