It will provide the opportunity for much greater spectator participation for family and friends with enhanced post-race activities including the Finish Festival with concerts and sponsor activations and puts runners close to hotels, transportation, and nightlife in West Hollywood, Beverly Hills and the best of LA.

The new route continued from the traditional starting line at Dodger Stadium, touring through West Hollywood and Beverly Hills. At the U-turn Sunday, patrons of local shops and supporters of the runners cheered on the runners, who by that point — about 22 miles into their journey — were definitely showing signs of fatigue, and could use the moral support. The supporters, from family to event volunteers, were often as much the story as the runners. There was Megan Granger on the phone with family members in Philadelphia who were on standby waiting to watch their loved ones stroll by.
There was the son who got to see his dad run. There were the massive cheers for the wheelchair athlete and a blind runner as they neared the finish. There was the crowd rallying behind the athlete whose leg appeared to be cramping up so close to the finish line. And then there were the volunteers, many rising in the wee hours of the morning to prep for the event.
Arizbel Gomez and Chelsea Canales, two Woodrow Wilson Los Angeles juniors, guided wheelchair athletes and helped to pick up some of the trash and clothing left behind by the runners.
The event itself — which draws elite runners from all over the world and attracts people from all 50 states — had its own journey this year to even happening. Last year, it could have just as well not happened.
